Speaking Out during Pride Month:  Churches Could Learn Boldness from Believers

Psalm 97:10 “You who love the Lord. Hate evil!”

“I don’t want to silence people, but I do want to let people know that their sexual preferences – their sin – does not make them special, and I don’t have to agree that their ‘pet sin’ is OK with me.” This is a quote from Jason Whitlock on his ‘Fearless’ YouTube discussion with Charlie Kirk of Turning Point USA.

Jason and Charlie, both Christians, are some of many believers fighting back against the LGBTQ community and their corporate sponsors’ public promoting of sexual idolatry in America.

Trevor Williams, pitcher for the Washington Nationals, had this to say to the LA Dodgers: “As a devout Catholic, I am deeply troubled by the Dodgers’ decision to honor ‘The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence’ at their Pride Night this year, a group that makes a blatant and deeply offensive mockery of my religion, and the religion of over 4 million people in LA County alone. As Catholics, we look to Jesus Christ and realize that any suffering in this world unites us to Him in the next.”

Trevor was joined by LA Dodgers pitcher Blake Treinen: “I am disappointed to see the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence honored as heroes at Dodger Stadium. Many of their performances are blasphemous, and their work only displays hate and mockery of Catholics and the Christian faith. My conviction in Jesus Christ will always come first. Inviting them to perform disenfranchises a large community and promotes hate of Christians and people of faith.

I believe Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sins. I believe the word of God is true, and in Galatians 6:7 it says, ‘Do not be deceived, God cannot be mocked; a man reaps what he sows.’ This group openly mocks Jesus Christ, the cornerstone of my faith, and I want to make it clear that I do not agree with nor support the decision of the Dodgers to ‘honor’ the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. ‘As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord’ Joshua 24:15.” Both Trevor and Blake are not ashamed to fight back!

Jason and Charlie went further to analyze what they see is happening in America – individual believers – not churches – are fighting back and taking this week’s verse (Psalm 97:10) to heart:

Jason: “Today, Starbucks instructed its locations to pull down their pride decorations. I actually think we are winning – our momentum is growing – in this culture war as it relates to ‘Pride’. Do you agree?”

Charlie: “Yes. Believers deserve a lot of credit. We are starting to make decisions based on whether a company shares our values. These otherwise untouchable companies are starting to be fearful. There is a consumer price to be paid for promoting ‘Pride Month.’ Corporations are seeing that pandering to an overly aggressive minority is not a good way to get 80% of the countries to buy your product.

Jason: “The pushback isn’t coming from the Church but from believers that have started organizations like yours who want the Bible to be the source of what informs them. The Church isn’t leading this pushback. Is it a good or bad thing, or does it even matter from where the leadership comes?”

Charlie: “We are seeing a new generation of Christians fulfilling Psalm 97:10 – ‘love God and hate evil’. I don’t think the Church is even contesting this evil today. So, believers are filling the void where a lot of church and para-church ministries (such as Young Life, K-Love, Campus Crusade) are not fighting.

It is a spiritual battle of good versus evil when the LGBTQ community goes after children. If the churches are not going to stand up, a new generation of believers will fill that void. It’s time to rebuke this evil.”

Charlie: “Pride is a sin. This movement will fall. We as Christians must stay humble before the Lord and do the right thing regardless at how daunting it might seem. Because when people start seeing these evil practices like post-birth abortion, transgenderism, open borders, CRT in schools, child puberty blockers start to fail, people start gravitating to Christian, conservative principles of liberty.

And once you start drinking from the waters of liberty, people are going to want to find its ultimate source – Jesus Christ. Liberty is not man’s idea – it is God’s idea. People come to the Turning Point USA Faith events to learn how to restore America and end up hearing about Jesus Christ as the Source of Truth.

That’s because the law of the universe points back to the Logos, and this Logos is Jesus Christ.”
