Isaiah 59:8 “The way of peace they have not known… whoever takes that way shall not know peace.”
America and the West are at it again – this time with Biden. This will be failure #9 to try to bring a Two-State Solution to the Middle East Conflict. Shouldn’t we listen to the famous words of Albert Einstein: “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.” Why does this always fail?
Failure #1 = UN Resolution 181 on Nov. 29, 1947, calling for the first “Two-State Solution” with the creation of an Arab state and a Jewish state in Palestine. That same day, the Muslim world rejected it outright.
In his book ‘The Palestinian Delusion,’ Robert Spencer asks this question: “No one who continues to advance the ‘Two-State Solution’ ever seems to ponder why so many years have gone by since Resolution 181 was originally passed without this ‘Two-State Solution’ ever being implemented even for a single day.”
Failure #2 = 1948 Balfour Declaration. Britain called for a “Jewish national home” in Palestine. Egypt, Transjordan, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon invaded Israel just after May 14, 1948. Israel wanted peaceful co-existence. The Muslim world wanted Israel’s destruction. Israel gained land in the famous “Six-Day War.”
Failure #3 = UN Resolution 242 on Nov. 22, 1967. The UN Security Council framed a peace agreement for a Two-State Solution where, if the Muslim world promised to live in peace with Israel, Israel would give back land it captured in the Six-Day War. The Muslim world – especially Egypt, Syria and Jordan (the “Six-Day War” instigators) – must “stop all belligerency” and “acknowledge the sovereignty, territorial and political independence of every state – including Israel.” Robert Spencer notes: “The framers of Resolution 242 envisioned Muslim states dropping their belligerent stance as Israel gave up the territory it just won.”
Only 6 years later, on October 6, 1973, the Muslim world (Egypt, Syria, Algeria, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia) invaded Israel again to start the “Yom Kippur War.” Once again, Israel won by routing the invading armies of the Egyptian-Syrian-Jordanian alliance.
Failure #4 = UN Resolution 338 on Oct. 22, 1973: “Immediately with a cease-fire, negotiations must start to establish a just and durable peace.” It is as if the West simply ignored what the Muslim said emphatically in their 1967 Khartoum Resolution: “No peace with Israel, no recognition of Israel, no negotiations with Israel.”
Failure #5 = Camp David Accords on Sept. 17, 1978. Jimmy Carter, Anwar Sadat and Menachem Began signed a peace agreement between Egypt and Israel for a “Two-State Solution,” citing Resolution 242. Islamic jihadists murdered Sadat on Oct. 6, 1981. The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) took over and refused to recognize Israel, stating “we are committed to Israel’s complete destruction.”
Failure #6 = Oslo Accords in Sept. 1993. Bill Clinton, PLO Leader Yassir Arafat and Israel Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin agreed to negotiate a “Two-State Solution” that again required Israel to withdraw from land it occupied if the Muslim world simply promised to recognize their existence and live with Israel in peace.
The Oslo Accords were in response to the rise of Hamas in August 1988 as the Muslim world’s alternative to the PLO’s willingness to negotiate. Hamas stated on April 5, 1998: “We adopt Islam as our way of life. Our ultimate goal is Islam, the Prophet as its model, the Quran as its Constitution.” Hamas’s Charter rejects the Two-Solution State as opposing Islam: “The so-called peaceful solutions and the international conferences to resolve the Palestinian problem are contrary to the beliefs of Hamas.”
Failure #7 = George W. Bush on June 24, 2002 announced – you guessed it – a “Two-State Solution”: “My vision is two states living side by side in peace and security”, which again required Israel to withdraw from land in exchange for Muslim promises of peace. By Sept. 2005, Israel fully withdrew from Gaza and the West Bank. On Jan. 25, 2006, Palestinians overwhelmingly elected Hamas as their governing party. By June 6, 2006, Hamas was firing rockets into Israel from Gaza.
Failure #8 = Barak Obama on Jan. 20, 2009 with his “Two-State Solution”: “Hamas must recognize Israel’s right to exist; renounce violence; end its rocket fire.” By 2015, Obama had formed a nuclear deal with Iran, Hamas’s main funder for terrorism. Iran’s Leader (Ayatollah Khamenei) tweeted this on July 23, 2014: “This barbaric, wolflike and infanticidal regime of Israel which spares no crime has no cure but to be annihilated.”
Time to heed Einstein? Next week, we examine why Two-State Solution fails. Its not political – its religious.
