Christian Nationalism = The Left’s Nonsense Word to Silence Conservative Christians

Proverbs 14:34 “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.”

“Those remarks are some of the most disturbing and frankly dangerous things I’ve ever seen in a political conversation. It is exceptionally dangerous when we forget the principle that our rights come from God and not from a government. The basic problem is, if they come from the government or Congress or the Supreme Court, they can be taken away by those same people. This is opening the door to totalitarianism.”

This is from a video posted on X by Bishop Robert Barron of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Winona-Rochester in Minnesota, responding – and condemning – Heidi Przybyla’s comments on MSNBC about the “dangerous spread of Christian Nationalism in America.” What exactly did Pryzbyla say?

Appearing on NSMBC last week, Przybyla said “Christian nationalists believe that our rights as Americans, as all human beings, don’t come from any earthly authority. This line of thinking says that rights don’t come from Congress, they don’t come from the Supreme Court, they come from God. The problem with that is that they are determining – men, and it is men – are determining what God is telling them.”

She continued: “While the concept of natural law has been used for good and social justice campaigns like racial equality and civil rights, there is an extremist element of conservative Christians who say that this applies specifically to issues including abortion and gay marriage.”

Przybyla just defined a conservative Christian as extremist by defending traditional marriage and the life of the unborn. She also slipped in her white Christian supremacy message by saying it is men – specifically, our white Founding Fathers – who determined in our documents that our rights come from God.

Once again, conservative Americans who claim to follow Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior are being deliberately bludgeoned by the secular Left with the mallet of the made-up label “Christian nationalist” that, like all the other labels (homophobic, white supremacist, MAGA) cannot even be defined. Do not fall for it.

Christian Post Executive Editor Dr. Richard Land was right in 2022 when he said “The increased use of the term ‘Christian nationalism’ is a tactic by the Left in the media to suppress patriotic beliefs and the idea that America is a unique country. They want to tie Christian nationalism to racism and to prejudice. I reject those labels. If you believe in any sense that America has a unique role to play in the world, and that God in His providence has had something to do with the United States, then you’re a Christian nationalist.”

But there is a major problem here, and it is not with our growing anti-Christian culture (the media, entertainment, and education industries). The problem is with conservative Christians who are afraid to go on offense into this culture and confront it with the greatest weapon on earth – the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Instead, we post our social media comments against statements like Przybyla’s, all the while allowing the Left to move from “fundamentally transforming America” (remember Barack Obama in 2011?) to Gay Pride Day at the White House to allowing babies at birth to be aborted to pushing “Antiracist” indoctrination of white guilt in our schools and corporations to university students marching in support of Hamas terrorists.

The Left knows that if they can keep attacking conservative Christians with a barrage of undefined, derogatory labels like “Christian nationalism,” we will spend all our time defending ourselves instead of actually DOING something to confront their lies and share the truth. We stay one step behind their lies.

In this week’s verse from Proverbs, King Solomon explains that God exalts that nation which upholds His righteousness, while the nation that sins against God will be despised. This same principle is used when comparing humility versus pride: “Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” (Matthew 23:12). This is the sin of Przybyla – pridefully denying it is God’s role in America.

And upholding God’s righteousness can only be done by trusting in His only Son Jesus Christ: “God made Jesus who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Jesus” (2Corinthians 5:21). People like Przybyla are attacking Jesus Christ – God’s righteousness.

Since our schools no longer teach civics to our youth, Przybyla and others on the Left get away with these lies. This is another example of something Christians can do to go on the offense: TEACH CIVICS. You’ll find God’s gospel throughout America’s founding documents. We must start teaching our youth.
