Path of Progress #1 of 3 in the Christian Life = KNOWING – Watchman Nee

Romans 6:6 “Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.”

Watchman Nee started the Christian church in China in 1922. When Communism took over in 1946, Nee was imprisoned for his faith in 1952 at the age of 49. He died in prison 20 years later in 1972.

America’s Christian foundation is under attack in eerily similar methods Mao used to install Communism. Mao succeeded in driving the church underground, where it continues flourishing, due to Nee’s legacy.

Let us return to Nee’s wisdom in “The Normal Christian Life” to resolve ourselves to live publicly – not just in church but in the culture – to proclaim and honor the Lord Jesus Christ. Here are 16 incredible Truths from CHAPTER 3: THE PATH OF PROGRESS – KNOWING, where Nee uses Romans 6:6.

Truth #1 = Just as I cannot have justification – forgiveness for what I have done – if I have not seen Him bearing my sins on the Cross, so I cannot have sanctification – deliverance from who I am – if I have not seen Him bearing me on the Cross.

Truth #2 = The Good News: Sanctification is made possible for me on the same basis as my Justification. I am offered deliverance from my sin as no less a gift of God’s grace than was the forgiveness of my sins.

Truth #3 = Not only have my sins been laid on Him but I have been put into Him.

Truth #4 = When I saw my sins all taken away on the Cross, what did I do? I did not ask Him to come and die for me, for I realized that He had already done so. What is true of my forgiveness is also true of my deliverance. The work is done. There is no need for me to pray, but only to praise.

Truth #5 = God has put me in Christ, so when Christ was crucified, I was crucified also.

Truth #6 = My sins were dealt with by His Blood. I am dealt with by His Cross. It is an accomplished fact. Praise Him for it and live in the sight of it: “They believed His words; they sang His praise” – Psalm 106:12.

Truth #7 = When Christ died on the Cross, I died with Him. He not only died in my stead, but He bore me with Him on the Cross, so that when He died, I also died. And if I believe in the death of the Lord Jesus, then I can believe in my own death just as surely as I believe in His death.

Truth #8 = How can I know that I died with Christ? I can know because God has said so. It does not depend on my feelings. These are DIVINE FACTS.

Truth #9 = That Christ has died is a fact; that I have died is also a fact. Let me tell you, YOU HAVE DIED! You are done with! The self you loathe is on the Cross IN CHRIST!

Truth #10 = Man’s way of deliverance from sin = try to suppress sin by seeking to overcome it. God’s way of deliverance from sin = remove the sinner!

Truth #11 = If I am preoccupied with the power of sin and my inability to overcome it, I will think that to gain the victory over sin I need more power. So, I plead with the Lord to strengthen me. But God’s means of delivering me from sin is not by making me stronger and stronger, but by making me weaker and weaker.

Truth #12 = God sets me free from the dominion of sin not by strengthening my old man but by crucifying him; not by helping him to do anything but by removing him from the scene of action!

Truth #13 = How I know I am “in Christ”? I know it because God has revealed it to me by His Spirit. I may not understand it; but I know it, because I have SEEN it. Once you have SEEN yourself in Christ, nothing can shake your assurance of that blessed fact.

Truth #14 = I need not work to die. I need not wait to die. I am dead. I only need to recognize what the Lord has already done, and to praise Him for it. I do not need to pray to the Lord for anything; I merely need to open my eyes to see that He has done it all!

Truth #15 = The finished work of Christ has gone to the root of my problems and dealt with it. He has made full provision for sin’s rule to be utterly broken. “Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away, that so we should no longer be in bondage to sin” – Romans 6:6.
