Jeremiah 8:11 “They healed my people’s wound lightly, saying, ‘Peace, peace,’ when there is no peace.”
Why do so many university students endorse Hamas, protest for the freedom of the Palestinian people, and the extermination of the nation of Israel? As Nazi propaganda leader Josef Goebbels said, “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually believe it. It is vitally important for the State to use all its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie.” What is the “big lie?”
We start with the “Big Truth”: From the moment that Israel became a State, the neighboring Arab Muslim states not only wanted to destroy it but they also made it clear they would never accept Israel’s existence.
Now, the “Big Lie.” Robert Spencer, author of ‘The History of Jihad’ and ‘The Palestinian Delusion,’ describes the strategy invented by the Arabs to ignite not only international opinion against Israel but also jihad against them by all Muslims: the creation of a mythical people group called “Palestinians.”
“Neither Mark Twain, nor any of the many English travelers who visited the area, nor anyone else who traveled through Palestine over the centuries, ever mentioned the “Palestinian” people. Nor do the many British documents produced during the Mandate for Palestine ever mention Palestinians. There is a very simple reason for this: there were no Palestinians.”
What was the Mandate for Palestine? Created in 1919, it was a League of Nations mandate to Britain to administer the territories of Palestine and Transjordan after the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in WW1. It required Britain to put into effect the Balfour Declaration’s “national home for the Jewish people” alongside the Arabs in Palestine, who considered themselves Syrians.
Spencer continues: “An uncomfortable fact for those who advance the claim that the Palestinians are the indigenous people of the area is that they have no history. There was never a state of Palestine, never a king or president of Palestine, never until very recently a Palestinian flag. And there is nothing that distinguishes the Palestinians culturally, linguistically, or otherwise from the other Arabs of the region.”
In fact, in 1937, Arab Muslim leader Auni Bey Abdul-Hadi told the Peel Commission that “There is no such country as Palestine! ‘Palestine’ is a term the Zionists invented! There is no Palestine in the Bible. Our country was for centuries part of Syria.” Even after WW2, Palestine was spoken of as part of Syria: “Palestine was part of the province of Syria. Politically, the Arabs of Palestine were not independent in forming their own political entity” (Arab Higher Committee addressing the UN General Assembly in 1947).
But then suddenly, at the advent of the PLO (Palestinian Liberation Organization) terrorist group in 1963, they refer to the “Palestinians” as a distinct people. Robert Spencer again explains: “The ‘Palestinian people’ were a propaganda invention. In the 1960’s, to counter the image of a tiny Jewish state standing alone against the massive Muslim Arab nations surrounding it, the Soviet KGB invented the ‘Palestinians,’ an even smaller people who were, the propaganda insisted, oppressed by a powerful and ruthless Israel.”
In their book ‘How the Palestinian People were Invented,’ David Horowitz explains that “the Palestinians were invented in order to transform a population into a weapon of mass destruction against Israel and the Jewish people, to demonize Israel, and to give totalitarianism and anti-Semitism renewed means of action.”
PLO executive member Zahir Muhsein stated this in a 1977 interview: “The Palestinian people do not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. There is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians, and Lebanese. Arab national interests demand we posit the existence of a ‘Palestinian people’ to oppose Zionism.”
But what happened when former US House Speaker Newt Gingrich, in 2011, said “There was no Palestine as a state. We have had an invented Palestinian people who are in fact Arabs, who are historically part of the Arab community with an enormous desire to destroy Israel”? Hamas fired back: “Gingrich’s remarks were shameful and disgraceful, showing a genuine hostility toward Palestinians.”
Robert Spencer summarizes today’s “2-State Solution”: “The Israeli-Palestinian ‘peace process’ refers to the Muslim Arabs of Palestine as ‘Palestinians’ to portray them as a tiny, indigenous people whose land was stolen by oppressive foreigners.” This is the “Big Lie” in the continual effort to destroy Israel.
