Subject: Christianity and Islam Part 15 – Orlando, Homosexuality & Sharia Law
Leviticus 25:10 “You…shall proclaim liberty throughout all the land to all its inhabitants.”
Back on September 2015, Dr. Ben Carson was criticized by the media for discrimination against Muslims and for propagating misinformation about Islam when he stated “If a Muslim is not willing to reject sharia and all the portions of it that are talked about in the Quran — I would not support a Muslim for president.” Within 3 months of Dr. Carson’s statement, two Islamic terrorists murdered 14 Americans at a Christmas party in San Bernardino. And three days ago, America now has its worst mass shooting in history, when 29-year old Islamic terrorist Omar Mateen massacred 49 people at a gay nightclub in Orlando.
Since the murder of 2,996 Americans by Islamic terrorists on September 11th 2001, 139 more innocent Americans have been murdered on United States soil in 48 separate acts of Islamic terror (that’s about one terror attack every 4 months), and hundreds of mass murder plots have been thwarted. But the Orlando massacre has put two of America’s culture wars on a collision course: the warning against “homophobia” (homosexual discrimination) and the warning against “Islamophobia” (Muslim discrimination). That’s because in Orlando, Islamic terrorists, citing Sharia Law, targeted the homosexual community.
In his June 14 article ‘Most Western Gays Remain in Denial about Islam’, British writer Douglas Murray, an avowed homosexual himself, sounds the same alarm that Dr. Carson did in September 2015, but this time to the homosexual community: “Back in January, the U.K.’s Gay Times ran a morbidly fascinating piece. Following the latest attacks in Paris and ISIS’s throwing of gays off buildings, the magazine asked, ‘Is Islam itself really a threat to the gay community? The answer is simple. No.’ It isn’t surprising that most gay spokespeople and publications lean left. For historic reasons – principally the political Right’s opposition to gay rights – most gay spokespeople continue to think that the political Right is the sole locale from which anti-gay sentiment can come. For many years Pat Robertson was their worst nightmare. But Pat Robertson just wanted to stop gays from marrying. He didn’t call for people to throw us off high buildings.”
Was the Orlando attack of the homosexual community due to militant Islamic extremism, or is it part of the religion of Islam? To answer this, we need to examine the same issue that Dr. Carson highlighted: Islam’s Sharia Law. In the June 13th Washington Post article ‘The State of Gay Rights around the World’, here are 6 countries where Islam’s Sharia Law calls for death to homosexuals: Iran (by sharia law, homosexual intercourse between men can be punished by death); Iraq (people committing homosexual acts have been sentenced to death by judges citing sharia law); Nigeria (several states have adopted sharia law and imposed a death penalty for homosexual men); Qatar (Sharia law applies only to Muslims, who can be put to death for extramarital sex, regardless of sexual orientation); Saudi Arabia (under sharia law, a married man engaging in sodomy or any non-Muslim who commits sodomy with a Muslim can be stoned to death); Somalia (Islamic courts have imposed sharia law and the death penalty for homosexual behavior).
In America, we do not kill people because they commit homosexual acts. America values each citizen’s right to freedom. It is even inscribed on our Liberty Bell, where we find our verse for this week (Leviticus 25:10). As a free society, we must not confuse our right to disagree over an issue with hatred toward those who disagree with us. And this distinction is now front and center with homosexuality, when we compare America’s Judeo-Christian heritage of freedom with the bondage of the Sharia Law worldview in Islam.
Dr. Emir Caner, a former Sunni Muslim who converted to Christianity, explains Sharia Law: “Sharia literally means a clear path. It comes from the Qur’an, chapter 45 and verse 18, where you’re given a clear path. That path is not a democratic path; it’s a path given to you. There’s no vote taken. So, for example, in America it would go against the Constitution. It would go against Article 1, with freedom of speech. So sharia is completely foreign to much of the Western atmosphere. Sharia is … the pure lifestyle of Islam, and it demands everything… It really does take everything into your life.”
Yet our media, and our administration, has not denounced Islam’s sharia law that demands death to anyone practicing homosexuality. Instead, Americans are told to join in solidarity behind our homosexual friends in their time of tragedy. We are missing the point. This is not a homosexual issue – this is an American issue. We must eliminate Islamic sharia law within America. If we don’t, not only will more innocent Americans be murdered but the freedom we know today will one day be gone.
