Acts 20:35“I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak.”
This was the fuel behind the explosive growth of the early Church. The apostle Paul, who told the churches throughout Greece to follow this, explained why: “Remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” Biblical Christianity is about caring for others’ needs because that is the mindset of its Founder: “Do not do anything through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each look out not only for his own interests, but also the interests of others… let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 2:3-5).
We no longer teach this truth in our schools, reserving this for a 1-hour per week Sunday School class. Since the 1920’s, Darwin’s Theory of Evolution has replaced the Bible in our classrooms as the explanation for how we as humans came to be as well as how all of life, included us, relate to one another.
But we do see signs of Evolutionary ideology, that for the last 100 years has caused enormous suffering to so many people, breaking down. The latest example is the recent announcement by Planned Parenthood of Greater New York (PPNYC) to remove the name of Margaret Sanger, the organization’s founder, from a Manhattan clinic and from a street named after her. Why is PPYNC choosing now to cancel their hero?
After all, she is highly regarded as a pioneer in American “reproductive rights”, opening the very first birth control clinic over 100 years ago, as well as the driving force behind creating access to birth control for low-income, minority and immigrant women. Karen Seltzer, chair of the board at PPNYC, explained.
“The removal of Margaret Sanger’s name from our building is both a necessary and overdue step to reckon with our legacy and acknowledge Planned Parenthood’s contributions to historical reproductive harm within communities of color. Margaret Sanger’s concerns and advocacy for reproductive health have been clearly documented, but so too has her racist legacy.” Both sins that Planned Parenthood have finally confessed, “harm to communities of color”, and “racist legacy”, are rooted in their association with Eugenics.
The truth is that Margaret Sanger, as well as many scientists and physicians at the time, was a very vocal supporter of the now-discredited Eugenics movement, whose goal was birthed from Darwin’s Theory of Evolution, to “improve the human race through selective human breeding based on genetic traits”.
As a quick refresher, Darwin’s 1859 ‘The Origin of Species’ argued that over long enough periods of time, traits in a population would change due to environmental pressures, and some organisms in the population with traits that made them more “fit” to survive and reproduce would win out over the “unfit”, who would die out, thus selecting the “better fit” for survival. Darwin called this natural selection or “survival of the fittest”.
Now, proponents of selective breeding had a champion, Darwinian natural selection. They boasted scientific justification for a sterilization program that targeted America’s “unfit” to be selectively “bred out”.
In ‘Darwin, Social Darwinism and Eugenics’, Professor Diane B. Paul writes “In the 19th century, claims were made that the ‘higher’ classes – the wealthy and successful – were being outbred by the ‘unfit’. Taken with Darwin’s Theory of Evolution, Eugenicists declared the ‘unfit’ were having more children than the ‘fit’, and humanity was doomed to deteriorate. It was argued that medicine, charity and government interfered with natural selection because they removed struggle, thereby promoting the survival of the so-called unfit.”
Margaret Sanger’s 1932 speech “My Way to (World) Peace”, rooted in Eugenics ideology, exposes the systemic racism of Planned Parenthood’s legacy that remain even today. Here are excerpts of her speech:
“Step 1 would be to control the intake and output on morons, mental defectives, epileptics. Step 2 would be to inventory the second group (15-20 million) of illiterates, paupers, unemployables, criminals, prostitutes, dope-fiends; classify them in special departments under government medical protection and segregate on farms and open spaces as long as necessary for the strengthening and development of moral conduct. Apply a stern and rigid policy of sterilization, and segregation to that grade of population whose progeny is already tainted or whose inheritance is such that objectionable traits may be transmitted to offspring.” Racial superiority is rooted in Evolution. Love for one another is rooted in the biblical Christianity. Is anyone else outraged that it is the Bible, not Darwinian Evolution, that is no longer taught to our children?
